Using Excel to open XML Reports from AOD

Issue/Question

How to set Microsoft Excel as the default program for opening .XML file types.

When running reports to Excel in AOD.  Sometimes the computer is set to open a .XML files using the browser.  You end up with results that look this this.

Environment

• Windows 10
• Windows 11

Resolution

Windows 11

1. Click the Windows icon 
2. Type Default Apps
3. Select Default Apps
4. Click Choose defaults by file type
5. Scroll down to .xml
6. Select .xml
7. Select Choose an app on your PC
8. Browse to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16
9. Select EXCEL

Windows 10

1. Download the file you wish to open in Excel
2. Right-click that file
3. Select Open with >
4. Select Choose another app
5. Select Choose an app on your PC
6. Browse to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16
7. Select EXCEL
